My very first time on the road to Santiago “El Camino”, Spain. It was in 1997, me, my dad, my Spanish uncle and cousin went together from Sevilla in south Spain, cycling all the way up to Galicia. A journey of about 1 300K. I had done some similar long distance cycle tours earlier in Sweden, but this was the very first time doing this sort of activity abroad. Now looking back, I can see it was in a sense, a defining moment. Afterwards I did the El Camino four more times, and my dad even more. The beautiful connection with my dad, and with my Spanish relatives in connection with experiencing the Spanish countryside has clearly shaped who I am today. The image on the photo is from the second or third time I did the journey, then hiking together with one of my very best friends. We walked from Roncesvalles on the French, Spanish border, the 800-900K to Santiago.
